Fall Prevention
A new falls prevention initiative was started in February 2010 at Water Lane Clinic.
It is impossible to stop all falls, but what we can do is help to minimise the type and frequency of falls.
The costs to the health services following falls amongst the elderly, is considerable. Physical damage such as fractures, bruises and cuts are just as damaging as the effects on the individuals confidence, diginity and coping mechanisms.
Even if there is no injury, the fall may affect mobility, with changes in gait and decrease of physical, psychological performance and decrease in social and physical activity.
